LAWNI - Chapter 5

The school year is ending abruptly for Miranda and her friends in chapter five. I'm sure some of you are tempted to root for a meteor to hit the moon in real life so you do not have Regents Exams this June! However, this is just one more example of how Miranda and the rest of humanity have had their lives turned upside down.

A lot of issues arose this chapter. Questions of rationing, religion, depression and striking a balance between helping others and looking out for yourself.

  1. Why does it bother Miranda so much that Megan gives away half her sandwich during lunch (p. 65)?

  2. How does Miranda feel about Megan's new found religious beliefs (p. 68-69)? Based on the first five chapters, why do you think Megan has become so religious? Do you think its affecting her ability to make good decisions concerning her self and her relationship with others?

  3. Electricity is something we more or less take for granted. As we see today in places like Iraq [as a result of the war], inconsistent electric service can have a substantial impact on people's lives. What if the Rochester area was faced with limited to no electric service for several months? How would you cope?

Please provide FREDs (facts, reasons, examples and details) to support your response!

  2. It bothers Miranda so much that Megan's been giving her lunch away is because Megan is getting really thin. Miranda thinks Megan's new found religious beliefs are horrible because she is listening to god to much and doing what he tells her and she spends way to much time with her church friends and also Yes I think it is affecting her ability to make good decisions in her self and other people because she is not eating enough and hanging out with other people besides her church friends. I think Megan has become so religious is probably because the moon has fallen and she probably want's to know what god has to say about it and what she should do. If the Rochester area didn't have any electricity for several months I would probably play cards, play some board games, read, or play with my dog.

  3. 1. It really bothers Miranda that Megan gives away both sandwiches just to irritate Miranda and she did it really sarcastically by winking.
    2. Miranda doesn’t really get along with Megan’s church friends and because of this new religion Megan will stave herself for her God that she believes in. Megan has become so religious because she thinks the world is going to end and she thinks Megan has gone crazy believing in this new God. Megan’s church friends are causing her to make bad choices by being bad influences on her.
    3. I would get a couple of candles and a lantern along with oil and I would spend a lot of time with my family. We would eat nasty cold canned food.

  4. 1: It bothers marinda because megan is makeing herself unhealthy

2: It bothers marianda because she is good freinds with her and she is not eating and she thinks that megans new church freinds are causing her to make bad dectioions and louseing to much waight could caus her to die

3: If we had inconsistent electric problems i would cope with is by uesing candles for light and playing board games with my sister and i would read and play games with my sister and i would play with my dog. I would do all of this instead of being on myspace and facebok. It might be a problem tho cuz we couldnt coment on mr hermances blog so we couldnt do his home work...."yay!" haha just kiding hermance
