Ender's Game - Chapter 9 (Part 1)

“His brother is dangerous, his brother was rejected for this program because he’s one of the most ruthless and unreliable human beings we’ve laid hands on. Why is he so important to Ender? Why, after all this time?”

  1. Why is Peter still such an influence on Ender?
  2. Do you believe that Peter is really changing- skinning squirrels and committing small violent acts to soothe himself? Compare Peter’s acts with those of his sister. Read through pg. 133 before you answer this!
  3. What does Peter believe is happening in the world? Does Valentine believe him and how does he convince her?
  4. Why does what Peter proposes frighten Valentine? Is it for the reasons that we might suspect? Explain.
  5. What do you believe is Peter’s ultimate plan? Does he need Val for this?
  6. How are Peter and Valentine are gaining influence.

  3. 1. He encouraged and taught Ender to be violent.

    2. No, I just think he wants Vally on his side, even if he has to BS a little. Vally is much more nicer and peaceful than Peter. But that's just how little girls are, now, aren't they?

    3. He believes the world is ready to be conquered by a 12-year-old ultraviolent maniacal child. He convinces her by crying like a little baby about how much he tried to change. What a wuss...

    4. Vally doesn't want to take over the world. Yet, she is going along with it because she doesn't want to get slapped and beat up.

    5. I believe he is going to eliminate all 3RDs. And I think he needs Vally to lure in the 3RDS then eliminate them when they are not looking.

    6. Peter is rubbing his evilness on Vally a little. Yet, we all know, Vally is no dummy...

  4. 1- 1. because Ender does not want to end up like peter.
    2. peter is smart.

2- Well maybe because basically Peter is always doing thing just to benefit himself and not others, plus he really does not care about others.

3- Peter believes that the Russian empire will got to war with the rest of Eurasia. At first Valentine does not believe Peter but after Peter showed Valentine the trains and what they were carrying Valentine believed Peter.

4- Peter proposes that he will pretend to be an adult. this most likely frightens Valentine because her and Peter can get in big trouble. Yes because Peter might be trying to get power over Valentine.

5- To try to get power. Peter probably needs Valentine for this for a back up plan

  5. 1 Peter will always be Ender's brother, everything ender does that is violent reminds him of Peter.

2 Peter has to let his anger out, after he lets it out i think he changes.

3 Peter believes a World War is beginning to stir up. He persuades Valentine by using the Russian conquer-spree.

4 Valentine would of course think Peter would harm her or has an evil plan, his nature is that way.

5 Peter's ultimate plan is probably a way to get him involved in warfare.
